CAPRAL Aluminium, which operates a smelter at Kurri Kurri, is financially supporting a new venture which could see the creation of as many as 20 new businesses in the Lower Hunter over the next two years.
Capral has agreed to support a new business incubator, the Lower Hunter Enterprise Complex.
The incubator is being established at Kurri Kurri and Capral will support it for the next three years.
The Lower Hunter Business Enterprise Centre is behind the initiative.
A building is being partitioned to house up to 20 small businesses along with an administration and support system.
Capral general manager Mr Trevor Coombe said support for the undertaking provided employment and investment opportunities for the region.
He said this was especially important in the Hunter over the next few years as the industrial base changed following the end of steel-making at BHP.
`We are very aware of the need for continued business growth that creates employment and the support provided by the Business Enterprise Centre will be the confidence and support trigger for people with good ideas and skills to develop new opportunities,' Mr Coombe said.
