Centre To Nurture Businesses At Lake

A SMALL business `incubator' at Boolaroo, funded by a $350,000 federal grant, should be completed by the middle of next year.

The incubator concept is to set up a series of small workplaces where fledgling businesses can share costs and get free advice.

Lake Macquarie City Council's economic development manager, Mr Graeme Hooper, said the board of the small business centre met yesterday and the project had been approved.

The centre would be built on land in Third St made available by Pasminco and the council.

Instead of having to pay between $200 and $300 a week in rent and sign a lease for several years, the incubator would provide space on a monthly basis from about $70 a week.

`Within the building you will have someone who can help with marketing or business plans,' Mr Hooper said.
